[Seoul=Newspim] Lee Nayoung = Eco Creation, leading company in eco-friendly waste plastic pyrolysis technology, announced on the 31st that it has succeeded in commercializing electricity generation from pyrolysis oil through its waste plastic pyrolysis plants for the first time in the world.
The successful pyrolysis oil generation produces electricity by direct filling pyrolysis oil generated by Eco Creation’s pyrolysis emulsification plants into a medium-speed diesel generator. After testing from March to April this year, it was confirmed that it maintained a similar level of output to diesel in comparison to the transmission volume of the Korea Electric Power Exchange.
This is significant in that it has verified the use of new types of pyrolysis oil in addition to crude oil replacement and heating fuels by applying the previously developed purification technology of pyrolysis oil for heating fuel to engine fuel for power generation.
The engine power generation business using fuel other than crude oil uses bio-diesel as fuel in a small number of domestic and foreign companies, but this is the first successful commercialization of pyrolysis oil extracted from plastic.

“For stable development of waste plastic pyrolysis oil, securing the supply of pyrolysis oil that can meet the input must be preceded, and chemical techniques for removing impurities must be supported,” said an official from E&C Yeoncheon, where operates Eco Creation’s pyrolysis emulsification plants. “The test confirmed that there are no problems in engine shutdown, debris cleaning, and smoke generation due to output and impurities.”
With the success of electricity generation using waste plastic pyrolysis oil, Eco Creation expects the best of both worlds on economy and eco-friendly through its plants. In addition to direct sales of pyrolysis oil, pyrolysis oil produced can be used for electricity generation as it is, making it possible to generate new electricity sales revenue without the input of additional resources. Also, after converting waste plastic into pyrolysis oil, it can be used as electricity generation, enabling the effect of recycling resources and realizing ESG management. In case of E&C Yeoncheon, which installed pyrolysis plants this time, when it was licensed as a waste-oilized power plant in the past, it received a 1Mw/h(renewable energy supply certificate) per 1Mw/h production generation and signed long-term contract to sell it to large domestic power plants. “We are pleased to have succeeded in generating electricity using waste plastic pyrolysis oil for the first time in the world, and we believe that our technology has been proven in that we have produced high-quality pyrolysis oil suitable for power generation.” said Jeon Beomguen, CEO of Eco Creation. “From the perspective of the operator, it will be great help in terms of social responsibility and corporate competitiveness through ESG management as it does not incur additional costs for additional refining equipment and operational personnel, and is eco-friendly in terms of resource recycling.
